Changes to the dog vaccination protocol.
Leptospirosis can cause acute and fatal disease, but also can be insidious and longstanding to cause slow organ degeneration and premature death. It can also be caught by humans and can pose a severe health threat.
Up to now we've used 'L2' which protects against two serovars of Leptospirosis but there are two other serovars which appear to be spreading in Europe. To ensure complete protection for our dog patients we've changed to 'L4'.
The first time we use this vaccine, to get the immune system up to speed, we will need to repeat just the L4 fraction four weeks after the annual vaccination. It's a bit of a hassle, but don't worry, you won't be paying for the second one, we've managed to negotiate a deal with the company and it will be administered free of charge.
By changing over early we will have 'future-proofed' our dog patients as well as our human clients against another threat.
